https://www.fao.org/india/en Reduced breeding, habitat loss, and socio-economic shift have led to a sharp decline in India’s camel population. But the Kutch District Co-operative Milk Producers’ Union Limited– also known as Sarhad Dairy– is writing a revival story in Gujarat’s Kutch region. A market for camel milk and a cooperative structure for milk aggregation is at the centre of this initiative. The Government of India is committed to reviving the declining camel population by promoting camel milk as a sustainable solution. FAO supports the government’s vision by helping replicate this model in other parts of Gujarat and Rajasthan.
