The Circular Economy

About This Collection

The Ellen MacArthur Foundation is an independent charity with the aim of inspiring a generation to re-think, re-design & build a positive future through the vision of a circular economy. Ellen MacArthur founded the Foundation to better understand how on land too we rely on finite resources in the form of materials, energy and water after her experiences as a world class sailor having sailed over 26,000 miles to become the fastest person to circumnavigate the globe single-handed.

The Circular Economy 100 is a global platform bringing together leading companies, emerging innovators and regions to accelerate the transition to a circular economy over a 1000-day (3 year) period. The Annual Summit was held Wednesday 19 June 2013.

What will the clothes of the future be made of?
November 12, 2019

The fashion and textile industry significantly impacts the environment, contributing 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Producing polyester consumes 70 million barrels of oil annually and takes centuries to decompose. Cotton also demands vast resources, using 20,000 liters of water per kilogram, alongside significant land and pesticides.

Discover how to create clothes that can be made again. This session will reveal technological solutions from Aalto University and feature Petar Ostojic, founder of the Latin American Innovation Centre for the Circular Economy (CIEC). He will explain how combining the circular economy and the Fourth Industrial Revolution can address waste, improve living standards, and tackle other challenges across Latin America.
