In this lyrical exploration, John Todd shares the essential principles of ecological design and reveals how mimicking nature’s forms and processes can lead to breakthrough design. He reveals the design secrets behind his award-winning eco-industrial park in Burlington, Vermont, and his strategies to clean up bodies of water from the marshes around Lake Champlain to the canals of Venice and South China. The main allies in his natural sewage treatment systems are native plants that help grow and feed bacteria, break down carcinogens, and sequester metals to produce clean water. His job is not to find a simple solution, but to evolve a technological and social framework that functions like a symphonic movement.

A passionate hunter and angler, and a former fly fishing guide, Todd is also a well-known outdoor writer. His stories and essays have appeared from Field & Stream, Sporting Classics, Fly Fisherman and American Angler to Men’s Journal, Forbes, the NY Times and Newsweek. In addition, Todd owns and runs the iconic School of Trout. Brian Wagner, Life Member & Grassroots Volunteer of Trout Unlimited Brian is a past-President of the PA Council of Trout Unlimited and currently serves as the PA representative to the Trout Unlimited National Leadership Council (NLC) and chair of the NLC Climate Change work group. Brian serves locally as Secretary and Youth Education Coordinator of the Forks of the Delaware chapter of Trout Unlimited in eastern PA and serves on the board of the Bushkill Stream Conservancy. He is a Certified Fishing Instructor for the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission.
