Dialogue 7 of "Reconciling Ways of Knowing," titled "Connecting Spiritually with the Land and Each Other," featured Elder Dr. Dave Courchene, Grandmother Katherine Whitecloud, and Dr. Blair Stonechild, moderated by Shaunna Morgan Siegers, MSc. They discussed the essential spiritual connection between people and the land, a foundational Indigenous understanding often absent from dominant worldviews influencing Canadian environmental policy.

This session explored the fundamental connection to the world and each other, emphasizing its spiritual dimension for Indigenous Peoples, maintained through ceremonies. Convenors Miles Richardson, OC, Dr. David Suzuki, and Dr. Nancy Turner later shared insights, followed by audience Q&A. The dialogue originally aired on Tuesday, January 26.

Keri Norris, PhD, JM, MPH, MCHES is The Fulton DeKalb Hospital Authority's Chief of Health Policy and Administration and leads the Community Health Awareness and Prevention Office and other key programs for the organization. Dr. Norris worked at the CDC as a health scientist, evaluator and epidemiologist. She has extensive experience in the areas of eliminating health disparities for vulnerable populations in the United States. She has served as adjunct faculty member at the University of South Carolina, Agnes Scott College, Spelman College, Baylor University and Morehouse School of Medicine. The National Turtle Lodge Elders’ and Knowledge Keepers’ Council calls for a National Day of Prayer on Sunday, June 6, 2021, at various times across Canada. This collective prayer responds to the tragic discovery of 215 children at a Kamloops residential school, honoring all affected by the residential school system.

Elders and Knowledge Keepers will lead ceremonies, lifting Sacred Pipes and lighting Sacred Fires, praying in Original Languages. Their aim is healing, fostering a new relationship based on love and kindness, and supporting today's children through ancestral ways.

All are invited to join this Sunday by participating in their own traditions. A special gathering at Turtle Lodge in July will seek further spiritual guidance for the country's path forward.
