This collaborative vision is the result of a unique public/private partnership. It brings together city and state government, higher education, nonprofit organizations, and the business community.

To combat this worsening problem, Defenders of Wildlife engages in public education campaigns in trafficking hotspots and partners with countries to strengthen wildlife laws. They also advocate for imperiled species and human health at international forums like CITES, working to reduce both the supply of and demand for wildlife. This loss devastates biodiversity; nearly 50% of threatened and endangered species rely on wetlands, with over a third living exclusively there.
