Climate change is already profoundly impacting humans, biodiversity, and natural communities. Extreme weather, habitat loss, and ocean changes are devastating wildlife globally, from polar bears to desert tortoises, and causing billions in human and economic damages. The U.S. alone suffered 22 billion-dollar weather disasters in 2020.

Urgent action is needed to expand renewable energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Defenders is actively addressing these threats by developing adaptive conservation plans, advocating for increased funding, and ensuring renewable energy projects are responsibly sited to protect wildlife.
