Asukulu Songolo -- like so many like him -- has never really been home. Join him as he explores his family's history, and the change he wants to bring back to his true home. Asukulu Songolo is a junior at Central Catholic in southeast Portland. He is the child of refugees of war from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and an immigrant to the country himself. He is active within his school community promoting marginalized groups and identities through his involvement in Diversity and Inclusion Leadership Council as well as African American Students United (AASU). Outside of this work, he enjoys spending time with friends and family as well as running track and field. He is passionate about social justice, and in August of 2019, he founded a grassroots movement, The Congo Peace Project. This movement hopes to realize the right to menstrual hygiene and educational opportunity for all Congolese people. After high school, Asukulu hopes to go into International Relations and Business, in order to satisfy his interests in social entrepreneurship and global politics. Donald Abrams, M.D. is chief of Hematology and Oncology at San Francisco General Hospital and the co-author—with Andrew Weil—of Integrative Oncology (Oxford University Press). Abrams has extensive experience working with cancer and HIV/AIDS patients and is a pioneer in the field of medical cannabis research.

The U.S. government classifies cannabis—along with heroin and LSD—as a Schedule I drug, the most tightly restricted category of drugs in the United States. According to the federal government, Schedule I drugs are unsafe and have "no currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States."

However, as medical cannabis proponents have pointed out since the Controlled Substances Act was passed by Congress in 1970, cannabis has been used medicinally for thousands of years, and there has never been a reported case of a marijuana overdose. The workshop featured presentations by the Climate Action Reserve and the American Carbon Registry (ACR) with details about carbon offset standards and forest project requirements. Great River Energy discussed the latest on carbon policy and the energy provider perspective. The Aitkin County Land Department provided an update on the development of a Northwoods carbon offset project. Event organized by Aitkin County Land Department, The Forest Guild, Northeastern Area - US Forest Service, and Dovetail Partners.

The series of activities impacted over 160,000 Chinese in Africa and were covered by over 50 African and Chinese media, receiving over 2.6 million views. She has worked as a researcher for an international wildlife organization, conducting research on wildlife products in Uganda. As a project manager, she led Chinese youths to conduct in-depth field research on international wildlife conservation issues, researching the status of protected area operations in Kenya, and studying the status and challenges of orangutan conservation in Indonesia, etc. In 2017, her story was featured on the CCTV news program "China with me". In 2018, as a youth representative, she talked to Sabine on CCTV's “Voice" program. Global urbanization has lead to new challenges for urban planners aiming to reduce poverty and ensure sustainability. To overcome these challenges, we need sufficient data on a global scale.
Global urbanization has lead to new challenges for urban planners aiming to reduce poverty and ensure sustainability. To overcome these challenges, we need sufficient data on a global scale. Xiaoxiang Zhu combines satellite and social media data with machine learning to generate a global model of all urban areas. Her models depict 3D shapes and illustrate the functions of buildings, as well as temporal changes, in cities. By providing open access to this data, Xiaoxiang's research group will enable broad impacts globally, from helping authorities improve slum conditions, providing evidence for a more accurate census, and numerous other end goals. Xiaoxiang Zhu is the professor for Signal Processing in Earth Observation at TUM. Xiaoxiang has always been fascinated by space and enjoyed solving mathematically demanding tasks as a child, which are perfectly entwined in the field of satellite Earth observation. Harrison also discusses the need for more trained linguistic personnel to go out into some of the remotest parts of the world to document these nearly extinct languages before they are lost to humanity forever.
