He won the Wildlife Photographer of the year 2018 (10 years and under level), Young Comedy Wildlife of the year 2018 (under 16 years) & Young Asian Wildlife Photographer of the year 2018 Award (under 18 years). In his talk, he emphasizes the importance of wildlife and its conservation to ensure a balance between mother Earth and humankind is maintained. Born in the year 2007, child prodigy Arshdeep Singh is a wildlife photographer from Jalandhar, India. He won the Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2018 (10 yrs, Young Awards Category), Young Comedy Wildlife of the Year 2018 (under 16 years), Young Asian Wildlife Photographer of the Award (under 18 years), all three being the top wildlife awards. Arshdeep has been in the field of nature and wildlife photography since he was years 5 years old, and he is passionate, particularly about bird photography. In Chitra Vishwanath's words, the gifts of nature are far more valuable than gifts of gold. Through her firm, Biome Environmental Solutions, based in Bangalore, she along with her team is redefining the concept of living close to nature by incorporating ecology and water conservation as the central aspect of all their projects. Through this talk, she explains her holistic approach and the necessity of such a shift that is essential in the construction field today. Chitra Vishwanath, an architect based in Bangalore is the principal architect at Biome Environmental Solutions. She studied for a diploma in civil engineering from Nigeria and a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the CEPT University in Ahmedabad. She has been running her own architectural firm since 1991, working with other architects on many projects in India and Africa. Biome is making major strides in ecological architecture especially in urban settings. In a world where conventional architecture and construction practices do much harm to the environment, firms like Biome strive to bring in a holistic ecosystem-based approach. Biome has been involved in more than 700 projects of various scales and contexts encompassing ecological construction, water harvesting and sanitation structures with specific relevance to the ecology of the sites. Since its beginning 20 years ago, Amazon Watch has been deeply committed to defending indigenous peoples' rights and territories, for they are the best guardians of their rainforest homes. Considering that indigenous lands hold 80% of global biodiversity, it is no surprise that extractive industries want their resources. If left to them, the Amazon's Sacred Headwaters would become one big oil field, and the watersheds of the Brazilian Amazon would be destroyed by agribusiness and mega-dams. There is another way! Amazon Watch continues to stand with indigenous allies in defending their territories and sacred natural areas as industrial "No Go Zones." We are committed to supporting and amplifying Sarayaku's Kawsak Sacha, or Living Forests, proposal in defense of all life in the Amazon by keeping the oil in the ground. We want to expand this model throughout the Amazon, so that places like Yasuní National Park and the Xingu and Tapajós rivers will never again be considered for industrial development. We are also waging international market campaigns to expose and pressure governments and corporations that are causing harm. Our new Amazon Crude Campaign aims to reduce demand for rainforest-destroying oil. Taylor McKinnon is an artist by accident and an activist by trade. In this artist talk, McKinnon will discuss nature photography as a practice of natural history— of mutually reinforcing, deeply intertwined endeavors of observation, art, love, and activism. McKinnon will discuss the fight to protect most places he shoots. In this artist talk, learn about McKinnon’s process in the field and lightroom, laziness and the compositional freedom of long lenses, and the hobbled, pure process of finding minimalism and personal style absent art theory. McKinnon will also share some of his more abstract landscape photography not featured in the exhibit. Taylor McKinnon is an artist by accident and an activist by trade. McKinnon is the Southwest Director for the Center for Biological Diversity, overseeing the Center’s work to protect wildlands and endangered species in the Southwest. Mckinnon pursues nature photography as a practice of natural history— of mutually reinforcing, deeply intertwined endeavors of observation, art, love, and activism. There’s a fight to protect most places he shoots. In his advocacy, he works on a variety of fronts and has helped spearhead campaigns to end federal fossil fuel leasing and ban uranium mining around the Grand Canyon.

Join us to discover how astronomer Vera Rubin's persistence, after her work was initially dismissed, finally convinced the scientific community that dark matter might exist. It is now taken for granted that the universe is mostly dark, made up of particles that are undetectable even by our most powerful telescopes. This discovery of the possible existence of dark matter signaled a Copernican-like revolution in astronomy: not only are we no longer the center of the universe, but even the stuff we’re made of appears to be insignificant. By showing that some astronomical objects seem to exaggerate gravity’s grip, Rubin played a pivotal role in this discovery. Yeager tells the story of Rubin’s childhood fascination with stars, and her scientific education at Vassar and Cornell. She became a rarity, a woman in science, and her findings were equally incredible to her colleagues. Since some observatories still restricted women from using their large telescopes, Rubin was unable to collect her own data until a decade after she had earned her Ph.D. But in 1993 she received the National Medal of Science for her groundbreaking work. She’s also been memorialized with a ridge on Mars, an asteroid, a galaxy, and most recently the Vera C. Rubin Observatory—the first national observatory named after a woman. Author and economist Richard Thaler discusses "Nudge: The Final Edition", co-authored by Cass R. Sunstein, which demonstrates how best to nudge us in the right directions, without ever restricting our freedom of choice.

Every day people make decisions: about the things they buy or the meals they eat; about the investments they make and the time they spend; about their health and the health of the planet. Unfortunately, people often choose unwisely. Nudge: The Final Edition shows us that we are all susceptible to biases that can lead us to make bad decisions that make us poorer, less healthy and less happy. And, as Thaler and Sunstein show, it is not possible for choices to be presented to us in a neutral way. Given this fact of life, why not try to help people choose what is best for themselves, for their families and for society?

Richard H. Thaler was awarded the 2017 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences for his contributions to the field of behavioral economics. He is the Charles R. Walgreen Distinguished Service Professor of Behavioral Science and Economics at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He is a member of the National Academy of Science and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and in 2015 he was the president of the American Economic Association. He has been published in numerous prominent journals and is the author of "Misbehaving: The Making of Behavioural Economics".

Ever wondered who will be the hero who saves our environment? In this talk, Manush raises awareness on the environmental issues present in her small city of Dilijan, discusses the initiatives she has taken as an environmental activist throughout her life to involve various parties to solve those issues and her discovery of the key to creating environmentally friendly practices. The president and founder of “Contribution to Women and Children” NGO (established in 2004), and a teacher in one of the schools of Dilijan, Manush Hovnanyan believes there are currently more opportunities in Armenia to enter politics, given that there are many women already in the field who are blazing a trail for others. In particular, Manush is interested in enabling the democratization process in Armenia, and as a politically experienced individual, who empowers young women in her region, she wants to be more engaged in political processes. Most events she organizes are dedicated to the empowerment of young women, their active involvement in politics, as well as to raising awareness about local environmental issues. Manush is also a proud member of the KATARINE Women’s Political Leadership program, where she actively participates and shares her concerns on various issues particularly related to women’s participation and eco-education. Ajay has led the successful scale-up of Li-Cycle to address urgent global energy storage challenges . Prior to Li-Cycle, Ajay gained deep technology and project development experience through progressive roles with Hatch’s Industrial Clean Tech and Advisory practices. His technical expertise spans the entire project lifecycle, from conceptual and pre-feasibility studies to construction and commissioning. Following his work in the industrial clean tech engineering field, Ajay worked as a Management Consultant with Hatch’s Advisory practice.
