Yellowstone, the planet's last intact temperate ecosystem, faces rapid changes due to global warming. Paleoecologist Dr. Cathy Whitlock researches its past climate to understand future consequences.

Dr. Whitlock, a Regents Professor Emerita at Montana State University and a National Academy of Sciences member, began her Yellowstone studies in the 1980s, analyzing sediment cores. Her work also includes leading the Montana Climate Assessment, which shaped state climate discussions.

Dr. Katrin Schuhen and her team at Wasser 3.0 (www.wasserdreinull.com) offer a groundbreaking, sustainable approach to remove micropollutants from water. Since 2012, their interdisciplinary expertise has developed cost-effective solutions to eliminate microplastics, pharmaceuticals, and other contaminants.

These flexible methods improve water quality and protect ecosystems globally. A pilot plant in Germany has successfully removed microplastics from urban wastewater since 2019. Dr. Schuhen, with a background in polymer chemistry, is driven by a mission to prevent micropollutants from entering our environment and bodies.
