After a 2011 march against strip-mining, Jackson Koeppel became committed to exploring alternatives to an extractive economy. That same year, he found his cause in Highland Park, MI. The Detroit-area city had lost 80% of its population, and in 2011, 1,000 of its 1,500 streetlights were decommissioned due to a $4 million municipal debt, leaving residential streets in darkness.

In response, Koeppel co-founded Soulardarity. This community organization is installing 200 solar streetlights and forming a cooperative of residents, businesses, and institutions to maintain them through annual dues. These affordable, eco-friendly lights foster community resilience and sustainability discussions.

O'Neill highlighted how marketers' 'pricing trap' hinders sustainability initiatives. He argued that while price accounts for only 30% of a purchase decision, emotion and feelings drive 70%. Emphasizing trust and the social environment is crucial for consumers to move beyond price-driven choices.

Naeen Jackson, a former farmer and Food Safety and Environmental Consultant at Jamaica's Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, leads the Essex Valley Agriculture Development Project. This initiative, funded by the UK and administered by the Caribbean Development Bank, represents Jamaica's largest single investment (£35.5M) in irrigation infrastructure.

The project aims to enhance productivity for over 700 farmers across 700 hectares by providing irrigation and improving market access. It emphasizes a socially inclusive, gender-equitable, and climate-sensitive approach. As an agricultural entrepreneur, Naeen is also a strong advocate for youth and women in agriculture.
