Jeffrey Sachs presents the key note presentation on
Jeffrey Sachs presents the key note presentation on sustainability, most particularly sustainable development (environmental and economic) for the first Global Grand Challenges Summit 2013 in London. The lectures is on how sustainable development must occur and how countries are not doing enough to meet this in either terms of energy and the economy. Published on Mar 30, 2013
In an October 15th 2013 article in the Financial Times in response to the climate catastrophe of Typhoon Haiyan, he notes "People need to see credible energy plans, pathways for each country and region to a prosperous low-carbon future. Such pathways can be found, but aside from excellent work in a handful of places, such as the UK, Denmark and California, such long-term planning has not been done...The basic elements of a pathway include four key pillars: more electricity from low-carbon technologies rather than coal; replacing fossil fuels with electricity as the fuel source for sectors such as cars and household heating; greater energy efficiency in industry and the home; and the end of deforestation (which emits carbon).
A People's Climate Movement: Indigenous, Labor, Faith Groups Prepare for Historic March on October 21, 2014 in New York City. A broadcast by Democracy Now. New York City is set to host what could be the largest climate change protest in history. Published on Sep 19, 2014
Organizers expect more than 100,000 people to converge for a People's Climate March on Sunday. Some 2,000 solidarity events are scheduled around the world this weekend ahead of Tuesday’s United Nations climate summit. We spend the hour with four participants representing the labor, indigenous, faith and climate justice communities: Rev. Dr. Serene Jones is the president of Union Theological Seminary, which recently voted to divest from fossil fuels; Lidy Nacpil is a member of the Philippine Movement for Climate Justice; Clayton Thomas-Muller is co-director of the Indigenous Tar Sands Campaign in Canada and a member of the Idle No More campaign; and Estela Vázquez is executive vice president of 1199 SEIU, which is expected to bring thousands of union members to the march.

Walmart Chairman and Former CEO Michael T. Duke says Walmart looks at more than just corporate profits when it considers sustainability. He speaks at the ECO:comics conference in Santa Barbara, Calif.Published on Apr 3, 2014
Smaller environmental footprint will lead to greater profit in the long run is Mr. Duke's main point in this excerpt of ana interview Environmental sustainability is a narrow focus of the term ignoring the social - people - and prosperity elements, both of which Walmart plays a big role with a considerable impact on citizens. Walmart and Sam's Club employs roughly 2.2 million people worldwide and is the largest private employer in the United States.
In April, top CEOs and investors, pioneering entrepreneurs, environmental experts and policy makers convene at ECO:nomics, The Wall Street Journal’s conference in Santa Barbara, to discuss and debate the most critical issues facing leaders who are driving change at the intersection of business and the environment.
We will have large corporations with infrastructures that have a smaller ecological footoprint and institutional self-promotional statements and conferences such as ECO:nomics, but our future will remain unsustainable as the mind-set of what Dr. Chet Bowers refers to as "deep cultural assumptions that support the individualistic/industrial/consumer-dependent culture that is ecologically unsustainable" remains the driving force in our Society and at Walmart.
