Sunday Morning Worship at 11AM on June 24th at the Federal Correctional Institution in Sheridan, Oregon. An Interfaith gathering for Immigrant Justice to pray and protest the internment of 123 refugees as part of President Trump's "Zero Tolerance" policy whereby parents were separated from their children before being jailed in facilities throughout the United States.  

"Wade in the Water" and other songs were combined with prayers, teaching moments, and readings from the Bible - Mark and the Romans.  

President Trump and Jeff Sessions, the Attorney General of the United States portray citizens objecting to the Zero Tolerance Policy  as "radicals" and "elites" who want open borders and don't care about crime. Such a characterization could not be further from the truth. This video shows Portlanders from all walks of life across a wide spectrum of religions and cultures who have come together, led by love, outside the gates of a federal prison housing 123 detainees to express their opinion that the zero tolerance policy is immoral and show support to those who have been detained.  

The folks at Freedom for Immigration (https://www.freedomforimmigrants.org/...) provide on their site detention maps and statistics for all immigrants in the system. Detention is  big business in America.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is widely regarded as the most authoritative source on climate change. With this comes a responsibility to ensure the information is communicated effectively to policymakers, citizens and those who rely on the information for their lives and livelihoods. How the IPCC communicates has been the subject of intense analysis in the past, as has the diversity of perspectives and knowledge that are included. Nearing the end of the Sixth Assessment Cycle, now is an important moment to reflect on successes, challenges, lessons learned and best practice for future reports. International media and the communications and science communities will be invited to mark the launch of a new Topical Collection (TC) of the journal Climatic Change on the topic of Climate Change Communication and the IPCC. The TC showcases expertise in the research, policy and other stakeholder communities in communicating climate change, and its relevance to the IPCC. A diverse panel of authors of three TC papers (on public understanding of terminology, engaging young people and democratising knowledge) will present their key findings, followed by critical reflections from IPCC vice chair, Thelma Krug, on their significance for the IPCC’s communications strategy. This will be followed by a frank and forward-looking Q&A session and a light-hearted ‘pitch contest’ with special guests to close the event.

In Chitra Vishwanath's words, the gifts of nature are far more valuable than gifts of gold. Through her firm, Biome Environmental Solutions, based in Bangalore, she along with her team is redefining the concept of living close to nature by incorporating ecology and water conservation as the central aspect of all their projects. Through this talk, she explains her holistic approach and the necessity of such a shift that is essential in the construction field today. Chitra Vishwanath, an architect based in Bangalore is the principal architect at Biome Environmental Solutions. She studied for a diploma in civil engineering from Nigeria and a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the CEPT University in Ahmedabad. She has been running her own architectural firm since 1991, working with other architects on many projects in India and Africa. Biome is making major strides in ecological architecture especially in urban settings. In a world where conventional architecture and construction practices do much harm to the environment, firms like Biome strive to bring in a holistic ecosystem-based approach. Biome has been involved in more than 700 projects of various scales and contexts encompassing ecological construction, water harvesting and sanitation structures with specific relevance to the ecology of the sites. Speaking today at a high-level debate in central London to mark the publication of his controversial new book Prosperity without Growth, Tim Jackson argues that building a new economic model fit for a low carbon world is the most urgent task of our times.

The current model isnt working, says Prof Jackson, a top sustainability adviser to the UKs four governments. Instead of delivering widespread prosperity, our economies are undermining wellbeing in the richest nations and failing those in the poorest. The prevailing system has already led us to the brink of economic collapse and if left unchecked it threatens a climate catastrophe.

Prosperity without Growth substantially updates Jacksons groundbreaking report for the Sustainable Development Commission. Launched earlier this year to great acclaim, the report rapidly became the most downloaded document in the Commissions nine year history and in recent weeks has contributed to a burgeoning debate about economic growth and its consequences for people and planet.
