Senator Telena Cruz Nelson of the 36th Guam Legislature emphasizes the importance of Guam's "Inifresi" pledge and raising future stewards, drawing from her island upbringing. A three-term Democratic Senator and Majority Leader, she chairs committees on Education, Infrastructure, and Guåhan Preservation, among others.

A UOG Anthropology graduate, Sen. Nelson served as a US Army Combat Medic, becoming the first female combat veteran elected to the Guam Legislature. She is currently a Major in the Guam National Guard and a former educator. She champions legislation for public safety, education, health, and transparency, advocating for the wellbeing of Guam's people.

Native Floridian Sean Russell developed a passion for marine conservation through 4-H and an internship at Mote Marine Laboratory. At 16, he founded the "Stow It-Don't Throw It Project." This initiative repurposes tennis ball containers into fishing line recycling bins, distributed by youth who educate anglers on proper disposal to protect marine wildlife from debris. The project now operates in 10 states.

In 2011, Russell launched the Youth Ocean Conservation Summit at Mote Lab. This annual event equips young people with skills to start their own conservation projects, inspiring hundreds nationwide. Satellite summits are now expanding its reach, beginning with the National and Seattle Aquariums.

Born in Pine Ridge, South Dakota, Sherman has cooked for 27 years. Through his business, The Sioux Chef, he works as a caterer and food educator, earning acclaim from National Public Radio and The New York Times.

Shipping traffic in the Santa Barbara Channel and along the California coast significantly contributes to air pollution and fatal strikes on endangered blue, humpback, and fin whales. The voluntary Vessel Speed Reduction (VSR) program encourages vessels to slow to 10 knots or less, effectively reducing pollution, whale strikes, and ocean noise.

Sean, the resource protection coordinator at Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary since 1997, develops policies and programs to address impacts from various uses. He also manages emergency response, enforcement, and community relations. Sean was instrumental in establishing marine protected area networks to restore fish and invertebrate populations and habitats within the sanctuary and state waters.
