James Brainard Mayor of Carmel, IN Mayor Brainard has implemented numerous environmental initiatives in Carmel. He encouraged the construction of roundabouts in place of traditional signaled intersections which reduces vehicle emissions. He's signed executive orders mandating the use of hybrid or flex-fuel vehicles for city operations and recently enacted a “No Idling” policy for city employees, among many more initiatives. As Mayor, Anna worked to ensure all citizens’ of Tolleson had an opportunity for a quality education and good paying jobs. She has supported local businesses and sustainable economic development and focused on developing regional partnerships and collaborating with local and state elected officials to advocate for all residents. The US Government kneecapped the federally recognized Mashpee Wampanoag tribe by de-establishing their reservation trust land in the middle of the Corona pandemic. This decision is especially poignant because 2020 marks the 400 year anniversary of the arrival of the pilgrims, who settled on top of an empty Wampanoag village, abandoned because up to 90% of the tribe had died of a similar epidemic introduced by European traders that ravaged the community from 1616-1620. Despite this devastating loss, the Wampanoag still helped the Pilgrims to survive, and they still remain on their ancestral homelands, now threatened by the US Department of the Interior.
