A beaver scurries up the boy to provide the law of wisdom. Written by Anishinaabe Elder, Dr. David Courchene, directed by Indigenous filmmaker, Erica Daniels of Peguis First Nation, and created by Manitoba’s Peg City Pictures Inc., The Seven Sacred Laws is a colourful and imaginative animated web series that follows a young boy on a vision quest, where he learns valuable lessons from seven sacred animals. In partnership with The Turtle Lodge International Centre for Indigenous Education and Wellness in Sagkeeng First Nation and IG Wealth Management, Manitoba 150 is honoured to present a series of short animated films on the Seven Sacred Laws. Farmers Brandon Mazur and Stephanie Moore met while attending Pacific University at the school garden and have been farming side by side ever since. They formed Good Natured Gardens, a small scale organic farm located on Sauvie Island about 15 minutes from Portland OR. In this video Brandon talks about the importance of small farms and what the next generation of farmers of farmers need in terms of community support.

Both Brandon and Stephanie are dedicated to the production of clean, fair and fresh vegetables and herbs. By cultivating the land in a positive way and helping others throughout the community to grow their own gardens, they hope to inspire creative, just and tasty ideas for the present and the future.

Last year, Dejah Powell founded Get Them to the Green (G2G), an organization that aims to foster love for the environment among Chicago youth, particularly youth of color. Powell’s first project with G2G was to organize a summer camp, through which she engaged 14 young people from across the city on issues like environmental justice, sustainability, and food and agriculture. G2G has since partnered with the non-profit Gardenneers to build a school garden at Powell’s elementary school to provide hands-on, outdoor environmental education opportunities for students, and has organized environmental education workshops throughout the city. Powell believes people can not solve a problem that they do not know exists. Now a senior at Cornell University, she hopes that environmental education in cities like Chicago will improve eco-literacy and help under-resourced communities access both local and global conversations.
