Green City Growers Cooperative, an employee-owned Cleveland business, is set to harvest its first crops. This 3.25-acre hydroponic operation, located off East 55th Street in the city's Central neighborhood, is one of the largest urban greenhouses in the country.

Data centers are known energy consumers. By designing them for flexibility, their demand can align with clean power availability. Non-urgent tasks like batch jobs can wait, allowing data centers to slow down when clean energy is scarce and speed up when abundant. This transforms them from grid burdens into valuable tools.

This concept, initially rejected, is now implemented in real data centers. Professor Ayse Coskun, Chief Scientist at Emerald AI and a Boston University professor, leads this innovation. Her research group pioneers flexible, grid-aware computing, applying AI and machine learning to optimize systems. She has received multiple awards for her work.
