Ms. Shradda Reddy, a 10th-grade student, delivered a thought-provoking TEDx talk advocating for afforestation. She highlighted that environmental protection is an ancient concept, referencing the Bhagavad Gita's wisdom on man's relationship with nature and Wangari Maathai's Nobel-winning Green Belt movement.

Reddy issued a call to action to "regreen the earth," announcing her plan to form a team with schoolmates. They will appeal to Karimnagar District residents to plant at least five trees each. The U.S. House of Representatives has passed bipartisan legislation to ban the domestic shark fin trade. This action addresses shark finning, a cruel practice where fins are removed at sea and the shark's body is discarded. While finning is illegal in U.S. waters, fins are still traded, often imported from countries with inadequate protections.

The global shark fin trade is a primary driver of declining shark populations worldwide, impacting an estimated 73 million sharks annually. This unsustainable demand has led to over 90% declines in some populations, threatening one-third of species in major trade hubs with extinction. The U.S. ban aims to mitigate this devastating impact.

On World Sea Turtle Day, Lilimar, Oceana, One More Generation, and children nationwide delivered over 12,500 letters and drawings to the White House. These messages urged President Obama and Secretary Penny Pritzker to protect threatened and endangered sea turtles in U.S. waters.

Representing all 50 states, the letters called for a simple solution: mandatory use of Turtle Excluder Devices (TEDs) in shrimp nets. These metal grates allow sea turtles and other marine life to escape, preventing their capture by shrimp trawls in the South Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico.

Implementing TEDs would save thousands of sea turtles, reduce seafood waste, and create new markets for U.S. shrimpers.

On March 31, 2014, the Tennessee House of Representatives overwhelmingly approved a bill to establish a state licensing program for legal hemp cultivation. Sponsor Rep. Jeremy Faison emphasized hemp's historical benefits and cited the recent U.S. Farm Bill, which permits states to regulate production and allows universities to conduct studies.

The legislation passed with an 88-5 vote. Following its approval, Faison distributed various hemp products, such as breakfast cereal, soap, cooking oil, and twine, to legislative leaders, showcasing the plant's diverse applications.
