As the head of Voiz sustainable development head of China, Keyi introduced the concept of circular economy and “greenwash”, revealing various environmental issues in the contemporary world. By showcasing her own experience at Voiz, Keyi also vividly presented her view of sustainable development and educated the audience about how everyone can be part of that future. As a student of the University of Cambridge majoring in Land Economy, she is currently the head of Voiz Sustainable Development China and the vice president of the Cambridge Consulting Society. She also founded the Cambridge Science and Technology Innovation Society and the Cambridge Business Society. She has a diversified professional background, covering economy, environment, finance, law and other dimensions. Meanwhile, she also has a wide variety of interests -- community welfare, hiking, and urban construction. She also stood out from more than 2,000 competitors and got the internship opportunity at the Bank of England in her freshman year. The US Government kneecapped the federally recognized Mashpee Wampanoag tribe by de-establishing their reservation trust land in the middle of the Corona pandemic. This decision is especially poignant because 2020 marks the 400 year anniversary of the arrival of the pilgrims, who settled on top of an empty Wampanoag village, abandoned because up to 90% of the tribe had died of a similar epidemic introduced by European traders that ravaged the community from 1616-1620. Despite this devastating loss, the Wampanoag still helped the Pilgrims to survive, and they still remain on their ancestral homelands, now threatened by the US Department of the Interior. The Chumash have been a maritime culture for thousands of years, their territory stretching from Malibu to Point Conception and westward to the sandstone cliffs of the Channel Islands, twenty miles off the coast of California. To navigate the treacherous currents of the channel for fishing and trading, they built the strong plank canoe tomols for which they are famous. But over centuries of European colonization, which included forced assimilation and enslavement of Chumash people, the craft of tomol building was nearly lost. Today, Alan Salazar works alongside his Chumash and Fernandeño Tataviam communities to pass their knowledge to the next generation of tomol builders and paddlers. Polyester can take hundreds of years to decompose. 20,000 litres of water can be used to produce a single kilogram of cotton, not to mention large areas of arable land and humongous amounts of pesticides. What will the clothes of the future be made of? How can we make clothes to be made again? Join this session to find out the technological solution that Aalto University has discovered. At the first Latin American Innovation Centre for the Circular Economy (CIEC), they explore how the circular economy and the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) can join forces to lead a new era of prosperity in Latin America.
