C2G seeks to catalyse the creation of effective governance for climate-altering technologies, in particular for Solar Radiation Modification and large-scale Carbon Dioxide Removal. C2G is impartial regarding the potential use of any proposed climate-altering technologies or interventions. These are choices for society to make.

In support of the UN Youth Climate Summit, the Carnegie Climate Governance Initiative (C2G) hosted a series of interactive games for young climate leaders exploring how society might tackle difficult decisions about whether or not to deploy climate-altering technologies to tackle global heating. Climate Interactive led a thought-provoking “Model-UN-like” negotiating game with the latest En-roads Climate Solutions Simulation – a powerful new interactive exploration of the combined effects of different policies and technologies on the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere, and on global temperatures. The session was held at the offices of Carnegie Council for Ethics in International Affairs, New York City, September 22, 2019.

The past five years of research have highlighted many potential benefits of integrating Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RISs) into wireless communication systems. The capacity and reliability can be significantly improved by controlling these surfaces to enhance the channel conditions. In this webinar, we will instead look at the dark side of the RIS technology: the harm it might cause if not properly controlled. The issues could either be accidental or intentional. One example is that another entity controls the RIS, typically to enhance the communication in an adjacent frequency band. This might inadvertently hurt the performance in your band and cause a new pilot contamination phenomenon. In the worst case, the RIS might be hijacked by someone with malicious intent, who could purposely configure it to reduce your communication performance and create unusual phenomena. How harmful might these issues be in practice?

This technical webinar on World Telecommunication/ICT (WTI) Indicators provided an overview of the new indicators agreed during the Expert Group on Telecommunication/ICT Indicators (EGTI) meeting and discussed their relevance and implementation. Participants gained insights into data submission processes to the ITU, common challenges encountered, and practical solutions to enhance data quality and comparability.
This activity was organized under the ITU project “Promoting and Measuring Universal and Meaningful Connectivity,” funded by the European Union. The project aims to strengthen the statistical capacities of national statistical offices and regulatory authorities, particularly in developing countries, through a series of webinars and workshops implemented by the ICT Data and Analytics Division (IDA).
