Earth’s Wild Music: Celebrating Life in a Time of Extinction

Description: Join author Kathleen Dean Moore, in conversation with Tom Fleischner, Executive Director of the Natural History Institute, as they celebrate the song-graced planet and its music-makers – whales and wolves, toads, sage grouse, and the glorious meadowlark. How can we tune ourselves to the music that surrounds us? How can we bear the sorrow of its silencing? Where do we turn, when words are not enough to express the urgency of action to save the songs?  Hear Kathleen read from her new book, Earth’s Wild Music. Hear a tiny concert, “Sidewinder Rattlesnake,” with author Craig Childs, accompanied by jazz percussionist Jonathan Rodriguez. Listen-- as wolves howl, loons call, thrushes whistle, and humpback whales roar on this music-box of a planet. Co-Sponsors: Counterpoint Press, Desert Laboratory on Tumamoc Hill, Peregrine Book Co., PLAYA: a center for the intersection for art and science, The Spring Creek Project, The Safina Center, and Center for Humans and Nature.
