Earth Guardians' Indigenous Youth Initiative trains young Indigenous leaders from across Turtle Island. This Native-led, nature-immersed program focuses on Traditional Ecological Knowledge, movement-building media, and climate justice organizing. Participants develop campaigns to defend their communities' lands, waters, and people, fostering relationships for the movement's future.

Established seven years ago by young water protectors after the NoDAPL movement, the initiative maintains a radical, grassroots approach. This year features two sessions (June & October) for Indigenous youth (18-30) in the Mid-Atlantic region (MD, VA, DC, DE, PA, WV). The Youth Forum will convene young people from across the region to foster dialogue, build capacity, and acquire knowledge. This initiative aims to empower them and strengthen their networks, particularly concerning agrifood systems.

Participants will develop a Regional Declaration, articulating their proposals and demands. This document will be instrumental in conveying youth voices and priorities to the 39th FAO Regional Conference for Latin America and the Caribbean (LARC39) and other critical decision-making platforms.

Lily YangLiu began activism at age 10, recognizing by 13 that youth voices were often tokenized. This sparked her commitment to inclusive political and environmental decision-making. She now leads K–12 Climate Literacy, developing early climate education for BC schools, and the Katija Hyoungjoo Neuber Institute, organizing youth delegations to the UN, IMF, and World Bank.

Her advocacy extends to YOUNGO, supporting 10,000 young climate advocates, and roles with Children First Canada and Youth Climate Corps BC. Named a Top 25 Woman of Influence in Canada, YangLiu believes "activism isn’t about noise; it’s about care, appreciation, and building inclusive communities," a principle guiding her work.

Raina Maiga, 16, an asylum seeker, ensures youth voices influence policy, driven by her experience of powerlessness. As Executive Director of Confront the Climate Crisis, an Indiana youth environmental organization, she leads legislative efforts.

Under Maiga, the group co-wrote and lobbied for two state bills (2022-2023) creating a climate solutions task force. They also held Statehouse events, educating youth and fostering legislator discussions. Maiga secured $20,000 yearly grants, removing financial barriers for student attendance.

Though state bills didn't pass, Confront the Climate Crisis now helps students enact local climate resolutions with city councils, adding to ten youth-written resolutions in Indiana, advocated for with Earth Charter Indiana.

The Green Therapy empowers youth through sustainable gardening, which reduces waste, preserves biodiversity, and combats pollution affordably. It partners with 14 San Francisco Bay Area schools, establishing environmental courses and garden programs. These initiatives equip students with practical skills to protect the planet, fostering a lasting connection to nature and building a growing school garden network.
