Mah Pe Ya Mini (Henry Skywater), a respected Dakota Elder, Knowledge Keeper, and ceremonial leader, often shared his "Spirit of Life" song. He connected it to the Dakota creation story: a blue light journeys from a heavenly house to a mother's womb, lives on Earth, and then returns to its celestial origin.

The song's essence, "Lightning beings! It's me! There is a house in the heavens where I was born," reflects this journey. Shared with his family's permission to continue his legacy, this video is posted on behalf of the Turtle Lodge, where Henry was an Elder, and Elders Circle Seven, who honored him with the Mikinak-Keya Spirit Tour. Elder Chief Dr. Harry Bone, co-author of "Wahbanung - The Resurgence of a People," spoke on March 19, 2020. He discussed the Pipe ceremony's significance in defining the path to sovereignty, connecting it to a ceremony 50 years prior. This earlier event inspired "Wahbung: Our Tomorrows" by the Manitoba Chiefs, written in response to the Canadian government's White Paper, which aimed to eliminate Indigenous rights.

Cree Elder A.J. Felix delivered a powerful "Wake Up" song and teachings at The Turtle Lodge on March 19, 2020, for the launch of "Wahbanung - The Resurgence of a People." His message called for spiritual awakening, urging listeners to address community challenges like children's suffering, disunity, and lack of sharing or prayer.

Elder Felix offered four vital teachings: pray sincerely, even with tears, as the spirit world listens; avoid buying luck or success, which can bring harm; and once grounded in prayer, remain humble, sharing blessings with those in need. This path leads to success and peace.

He encourages seeking foods that are better for us and the land, making every day our own Earth Day.

For a decade, Johnson's team has built successful rural and urban community-focused habitat programs. His work in the Dakotas aligns farmers, ranchers, grasslands, and birds in win-win scenarios. Audubon's market-based Conservation Ranching Program now enrolls over 2 million acres across 60 ranches, and he leads the largest urban conservation program in the Northern Great Plains.
