Addressing global food security and feeding a rapidly expanding population, Helianti Hilman founded JAVARA in 2008. Inspired by Indonesia's food biodiversity, JAVARA works with smallholder farmers and producers, nurturing rural entrepreneurs to create a wide range of organic food products for domestic and export markets.

JAVARA now partners with tens of thousands of farmers, foragers, and fishers across Indonesia, producing over 900 artisanal products. To build inclusive economic development, Hilman launched Sekolah @SenimanPangan (School of Food Artisans) in 2017. This platform empowers young farmers to become food entrepreneurs by creating and selling value-added products and services. Young Researcher Beti, from the Biotechnical Faculty, is dedicated to this field. Her doctoral research explores microbial decomposition of agro-industrial keratin waste, pioneering this work in Slovenia.

Beti also actively raises science awareness, participating in events like the European Science Slam, where she represented Slovenia in 2019. Slam Dunkley, an Earth Guardians board member, recently delivered a law school graduation speech. He highlighted societal hypocrisy and the need for young leaders to maintain optimism for a radically different future.

Born in France, of Jamaican and Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape descent, Slam boasts a distinguished academic and legal career. A Division 1 Rower, he earned multiple degrees and, in law school, led student associations and wrote an award-winning paper on Indian Water rights. He will continue his legal education at UCLA.

Sophie Tipper, passionate about environmental policy since middle school, joined the Colorado Youth Advisory Council (COYAC) in July 2023. Noticing youth were absent from state environmental task forces, she and Ashna Shah developed a policy memo recommending youth advisors for the Colorado Department of Public Health's Environmental Justice Board. This led to drafting SB25-055, a bill requiring two youth members on the board. Despite a sponsor's election defeat, Tipper secured new support, and the bill was introduced to the Colorado legislature in January 2025.

SB25-055 subsequently passed and was signed into law by Governor Jared Polis in May. Tipper, now drafting a plastic pollution bill, believes youth advocacy empowers young people to drive real policy change. She hopes to inspire similar youth-led environmental initiatives nationwide.
