Nick Estes, Ph.D. (Kul Wicasa/Lower Brule Sioux), is an Assistant Professor of American Studies at the University of New Mexico and a member of the Oak Lake Writers Society. He co-founded The Red Nation in 2014, an organization dedicated to Native liberation, serving on its editorial collective and writing its bi-weekly newsletter. Estes is the author of "Our History Is the Future: Standing Rock Versus the Dakota Access Pipeline" and "The Long Tradition of Indigenous Resistance."

Nature-based solutions (NbS) offer multiple benefits for business, nature, and people, yet their adoption by companies to meet climate goals and mitigate risks remains limited. Increased corporate engagement across value chains is crucial for achieving a net-zero, nature-positive world.

CISL acknowledges the challenges companies face in adopting NbS, particularly in quantifying benefits for initial projects like regenerative agriculture. To address this, CISL, with support from the We Mean Business Coalition, launched a diagnostic tool in March 2022 to help unlock NbS investments within value chains.

On November 18, 2016, Anishinabe Elder Dave Courchene hosted a gathering at the Turtle Lodge in Sagkeeng First Nation, Manitoba. The event focused on Indigenous perspectives regarding pipeline development in the province.

Attendees represented a diverse cross-section, including federal and provincial government officials, energy companies, environmental organizations, legal professionals, and other Indigenous Elders and leaders.

Randy Woodley and Graham Hill discuss embracing ethnic diversity and learning from indigenous communities on The GlobalChurch Project. Woodley, a descendent of the United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians, is a founding member of the North American Institute for Indigenous Theological Studies. Hill is the Founder and Director of The GlobalChurch Project.

Woodley and his wife Edith previously led a Native American gathering and developed a holistic service model, including a sustainable farm and Christian community. This initiative, which taught sustainability and eco-justice, was unfortunately disbanded due to violence. The GlobalChurch Project films Christian leaders and churches from diverse non-Western cultures, providing resources like curriculum, books, and training videos. From April 4-6, 2012, the Indigenous Environmental Network hosted a three-day Rights of Mother Earth Conference at Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence, Kansas. This video features a presentation from the conference. Additional coverage is available on the IENearth YouTube Channel.

The presentation includes closing remarks, stressing that land degradation stems from ignoring Indigenous Knowledge. It challenges viewers to choose between disregarding sustainable systems and embracing the ancient wisdom that sustained people for millennia.
